What is Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, which is crucial for transmitting information from the eye to the brain. This damage is often caused by increased intraocular pressure (IOP), though it can occur with normal eye pressure. If left untreated glaucoma can lead to permanent vision loss and even blindness.

Risk factors for Gluacoma include:

•Age

•Family history for glaucoma

•High intraocular pressures

•Thin corneas

•African, Hispanic or Asain heritage

•Diabetes, hypertension or certain eye conditions

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma management starts with lowering intraocular pressure (IOP), the primary factor in preventing further damage to the optic nerve. It has also been found that lowering IOP can lead to restoration of the RGCs function to halt the progression of vision loss. At inVista Optical, we offer a range of effective treatment options designed to meet your unique needs:

• Prescription Eye Drops: Medications to reduce IOP by decreasing fluid production or by increasing the aqueous humor drainage.

• Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT): A safe and precise laser treatment that targets the trabecular meshwork to improve fluid drainage and lower eye pressure effectively.

After a thorough examination, Dr. Jahnke will discuss your results and collaborate with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that fits your lifestyle and ensures the best possible outcome.
