Evaluations and Treatment

What is Macular Degeneration?
Macular degeneration is a chronic eye condition that affects the macula, which is where your central vision is located. It is one of the leading causes of vision loss in those over 50 years old. There are 2 types of macular degeneration: dry and wet.
Dry Macular Degeneration:
Wet Macular Degeneration:
Dry Macular Degeneration
Dry macular degeneration develops gradually over time and is painless. Symptoms may include vision distortion, reduced central vision, the need for brighter light, difficulty adapting to lower light levels, and increased blurriness of printed words. It can affect one or both eyes.
While there is currently no cure for macular degeneration, we use in-depth scans to diagnose the condition and assess the risk of vision loss. This allows us to recommend the best supplements for slowing progression. In most cases, MacuHealth is suggested due to its clinically proven ability to replenish macular pigment and protect the macula from further damage. Key carotenoids such as lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin help shield eye tissue from oxidative stress, a contributing factor in macular degeneration.
Early detection, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, eating a balanced diet, and protecting your eyes from harmful UV exposure are essential to preserving vision.

Wet Macular Degeneration
Wet macular degeneration occurs when abnormal blood vessels grow beneath the macula, leading to vision loss. At inVista Optical, we are proud to offer advanced diagnostic technology called Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCT-A). This non-invasive imaging technique provides detailed visualization of the blood vessels in the retina.
With OCT-A, our doctors can detect and evaluate the presence of choroidal neovascularization (CNV)—the hallmark of wet AMD—at its earliest stages. Early detection is critical for initiating prompt and effective treatment. OCT-A also assists in tailoring personalized treatment plans, ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients.
